Pears help to moisten the lungs and protect them from dryness. If you are currently in an area impacted from smoke from forest fires, the smoke causes dry heat in the lungs. The cardamom and ginger in this recipe helps to circulate qi, and address the underlying mechanism that causes phlegm to develop. Add a pinch of cinnamon as well ato aid in this action during smokey weather.
Ingredients:
- 2 Pears (any kind)
- 1/4 tsp cardamom
- 1/4 tsp grated ginger
- a pinch of cinnamon
- 2 cups non-dairy milk like hazelnut, oat, or almond milk
- 6 T chia seeds
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 T maple syrup
Optional additions for lung support:
- @rootsandbones 1/4tsp of each cordyceps powder, and/or Reishi powder
- Link to purchase here.
Instructions:
Place chia seeds, alternative milk, vanilla, and maple syrup (and the optional cordyceps and/or reishi powder) in a large mason jar and shake thoroughly. Wait ten minutes and shake again. Store in the fridge for 3-4 hours or overnight.
To make the pear mixture, peel and slice the pears. Put them in a saucepan with the spices and simmer on medium low for 7-10 minutes, until they start to release their juices and soften. When ready to eat, layer with the chia pudding, and devour.
This makes a good breakfast, snack, or dessert. If eating for breakfast, I like to had 1/4 cup of walnuts, and sometimes a scoop of protein powder to my breakfast chia pudding.
